Welcome to Ms. Hankins' Class Website
Welcome to Ms. Hankins 3rd Grade class Webpage. I have created this for you, as parents, to guide you through your child's learning. Please take some time to look through the various pages to see what your child is doing in class. Literacy and social studies are deeply integrated in the Storypath of the Northwest Coast People. Your child is participating in a simulation as a person living in the 1800's in our area of the country. They will develop their characters' lives and face similar obstacles someone living here at that time might encounter. Family activities are included as well which allow your child to further develop their understanding and growth of this time and place and include you in the process. We appreciate your participation in your child's learning because it allows them to take responsibility for their learning, and to further understand and appreciate that learning is lifelong and continuous.
Their literacy unit is focused around series of biographies appropriate to each child's reading level. They will be delving into the worlds of many different people while focusing on challenges these people overcame through their life. Students will focus on how people hold onto their values and beliefs and how they rely on their community in the face of challenges. We have incorporated activities to deepen their understanding of this topic by having them view their own lives and lives of people around them to discover similarities and differences in how we face challenges as humans. They will be inspired by people in history and by their community.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
